 t

Before the interview with Thomas Moorehead, he changed the course of the direction about stressing the important of GIVING BACK in your own way. Meaning, it don’t have to be money. It can be your time and your mentorship.
ANSWER
We need to give back to our Under Grad schools that started us out. Most graduates give back more to their Graduate Schools.  Graduates can check with their company to see if they provide Matching Fund programs.  Those dollars no matter how much helps.  It is up to us to find the best ways to give back to Grambling State University. My wife and I have given back to schools across the country including Bethune Cookman University and Howard University.  The key is we want our kids to get an education.  For Grambling, we partner with individual student funding. Meaning, we just don’t give one time.  We make sure that particular student receives money from freshmen year to senior year.  We even created a Thrift Store to make sure students can buy the finest clothes at a discount so they have confidence to get their JOB.
QUESTION
Who is THOMAS MOOREHEAD and where did you get your CONFIDENCE?
ANSWER
I am from Monroe. I watched the local Dentist and Pharmacist being admired by so many people.  I wanted to be like them. So, I majored in business at Grambling State University.  I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT I WANTED TO DO.  Two of my friends at Grambling inspired me.  One of my friends owned a McDonald’s Franchise and the other friend is my Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Brother asked me about opening a Car Dealership.  I didn’t want to be a Car Salesman, because I thought the IMAGE of them was wearing a Plaid jacket and smoking cigarettes. (“This made me laugh. Mr. Moorehead got jokes. Ok, back to the story. “Kingi) My Frat Brother gave me a different view…A DIFFERENT IMAGE.  When I met the Car Dealership owners, they look like business people from Wall Street.  I decided to go on that path and DEFINE MY OWN IMAGE as a Car Salesman.  I wanted to buy a Cadillac Dealership. I was told to start out with a Buick or Pontiac Dealership.  It fueled me that someone told me what I could not have when I always enjoyed looking at luxury cars and hotels.  We have to believe in ourselves and make it happen.
QUESTION
How did you do it?  How did you make your Automotive and Hotel Franchise a Reality?
ANSWER
You have to get it and make it happen. You have to be in the right place at the  right time. God chose us to make it happen because he watched us plant seeds in the community by GIVING BACK.  My Uncle and Grandfather were ministers who raised me.   They taught me to GIVE BACK by paying your BLACK TAXES and being a CORPORATE CITIZEN by being ethical in business and life.

TUESDAY THANKS - KENYA JONES is thanked by GUNAA for her service. GUNAA's 5 Weeks to GRAMBLING State Homecoming. Kenya shares why she is The GREATEST Fan of Grambling State UniversityπŸ˜ŠπŸŽ‰πŸ―

"I am Grambling's Greatest Fan because I love and respect my roots. I love Grambling so much that  When it comes down to choosing between GSU and my sorority, GSU wins hands down. Without my degree, I wouldn't be Greek so I keep it in perspective and remain loyal.

I chose to become active in the Douglas L. Williams Alumni Chapter 15 years ago so that I can help uplift GSU in the Houston community. By volunteering in the community, it puts us in a limelight beyond sports and the band. Sure, we enjoy the games/parties but I like to talk about initiatives beyond the gridiron, above the rim, beyond the diamond, etc.   Recruiting is my passion, as I want to see GSU stay in the climb in enrollment and for the university to continue to flourish. I also keep in touch with our Houston students and their parents as I vow to not only just recruit them to GSU but to help retain them, and see them at the finish line of graduation.

My degree has helped contribute to the success of my 20 year career in the hotel industry in which I am currently a Director of Sales for Marriott. I am a true Libra as I am always trying to keep my scales in balance with my career and giving back to GSU.
In summary, this is why I am known to many as Loyal Tigress and why I feel as though I am Grambling's Greatest Fan.

Fun Facts:
I make GSU Spirit posters highlighting ESPN in slogans to get on tv.

I have a Texas state Grambling State University license plate with my month and year that I graduated from GSU.

I will be celebrating my 20 year reunion during Homecoming next month."

Question 1.  Football STAR to Hollywood STAR, what was the KEY to your success?

Answer:

The key to my success steam directly from my family's endless prayers for me point blank period. When I left for college my mom and dad gave me a journal full of kind words from family and friends. Every time I would come home for the holidays she would add poetry and words of encouragement for me and I would read those words to remind myself that I have to keep going no matter how hard times get. And I still have the journal and read it pretty often. I have my family, my friends and my city that are looking to me for motivation and I can never stop trying to elevate and represent them. So I attribute the majority my success to my praying family and friends without them I wouldn't be where I am today. The rest is just pure hard work, be sure to fall in love with the grind. Oh and I also understand that I don't have all the answers and that's ok because I've learned that nobody has it all figured out.

Question 2. Who was your Coach at Grambling State University?

Answer:

My head coach was Rod Broadway who is now the head coach at North Carolina A&T. One thing that he instilled in all of us was to finish, never get complacent. He taught me a lot about accountability, I remember my freshman year I almost missed the bus back to Grambling after the Bayou classic in 2007. I ran to the bus and he gave me a look that I would never want to see again, I made sure I was never late for the bus again.

Question 3. What position did you play with the G-Men?

Answer:

I played receiver both in the slot and out wide and I was also a return specialist.

Question 4. What advice would you have a future Grambling Football STAR?

Answer:

The advice I would give to a future Grambling Star is to think about all of the men before you that had the privilege to wear that G and represent the greatest university in the land. Once you get your opportunity to show case your skills, be sure to ball out. Coach Broadway used to always say "Don't worry, HELP IS ON THE WAY!" as a reminder to us that you don't get the job done, somebody else will. Enjoy those moments with your teammates, those guys will become some of your life-long friends. It's brotherhood bond that can never be broken and you should take full advantage of the opportunity you have now. Understand that the operation is bigger than you it takes a collective effort to succeed. Have all the pride in putting that G on. Enjoy the process and never take a moment for granted. Those 4 or 5 years pass by so fast and you'll cherish these times forever.

Question 5. What advice would you have a future Hollywood STAR?

Answer:

As far as a Hollywood star? Man, I wouldn't consider myself one of those yet, but soon.... maybe. I would say before coming out here you have to know yourself and have a solid moral compass. You have to really be in tune with yourself because it's easy to get lost in the sauce out here. For me, I had some friends & family here that really helped me get through tough times. I keep the good around me at all times and "Allen Iverson stepped" over the negativity. This is a city full of dreamers and with the right focus your dreams could become a reality. But just as quick as you get it, is as quick as it could be taken away so new get too high and never get too low. Remain at balance at all times. Cherish every moment and work hard to chase your dreams. This is truly a city where anything can happen at any time so you've gotta be ready.

Also if you could please let ppl know that they can hit me on social media for further questions. If they need words of encouragement they can purchase my mom's book "voices of my soul" by Desaree A Thompson available on amazon.

"I am the greatest fan of Grambling State University because of what it has contributed to me and my life and to the lives of so many people.  Grambling provided me several unique opportunities to grow and develop.  I twice studied in France as a GSU student.  Those study abroad experiences changed my life.  I had the opportunity to become the SGA president and interact with and be mentored by a great College president; Dr. Joseph Johnson.  I met the awesome lady that became my wife, Elodie Davis Killins. Together we have been blessed with three wonderful children.  Finally, I continue to stand in awe of all of the great faculty and staff of Grambling State University over the years.  It was and is their sacrifice and dedication to the proposition that Everybody is Somebody, even young boy from a small town in South Louisiana.   I remain ever mindful that I have had the opportunity to rise to great heights in my life because I am standing on the shoulders of those GSU giants, too numerous to mention,  but too vital to be forgotten.  This is why I am the greatest fan of dear ole Grambling State University."

"I Love Grambling State University!!!  My heart is fearless as a Tiger!  My Junior year in high school I selected to attend a HBCU.  1st choice Tuskegee, 2nd Jackson State, 3rd Grambling and of course, I chose the World Famed Grambling State University.  The foundation that help guide me to be the person I am today.  My 4 years at Grambling, I vowed to utilized my life experience combined with this awesome motto “Where Everybody Is Somebody” and build my career as a Social Worker.  Every person I encounter  I think about where I come from, Bogalusa, La., and what my parents endured in raising a child with limited abilities.  With prayer and aid of a Social Worker guiding my parents, I knew I had to give back.  Attending Grambling State University I met a diverse group of people with the same love for a university unlike no other as I.  Graduating in 1982 from Grambling State University was one of the saddest day of my life, but I vowed to come back to give back.  Of course I would  return every chance I get for games and various events, but I desired to come and make a bigger difference in the lives of individuals.   Through a few job changes as a Social Worker, I was a offered a promotion and job relocation opportunity to  work for an agency in Lincoln Parish  or Ouachita and of course my choice Ruston  in Lincoln Parish.  I was coming home or close to home ( Grambling State University)!!!. Coming Back to Give Back!!!  My family and friends were excited,  and once again the arms of the community of Ruston and Grambling opened theirs arms to me.  Mrs. Theresa Wyatt and Mrs. Hazel Hunter watched over me while I was attending Grambling and  upon notifying them of my return, they was just as excited.  I am the Mental Health Clinic Manager of Ruston Behavioral Health Clinic in Ruston ,La  providing service to person with Mental Illness and Addiction Disorders.  I reach out to students in every and any capacity as I can, I am a strong recruiter and as a committee member with NAMI  and servicing this community help me to continue the legacy of my awesome motto “Everybody is  Somebody”!!! I Love Grambling State University."
